breaking, this is kezi 9 news at 6" eugene police are increasing patrols in one area -- after another armed robbery. it happened on hilyard street overnight-- and it was the second one on the block in less than a week. thanks for joining us. i'm renee mccullough. i'm matt templeman. this is the sixth armed robbery in the city since last friday -- and police are investigating if they're connected. four have happened near the university of oregon -- including this one. kezi 9 news reporter brady wakayama is live at the scene of this morning's robbery -- with our top story tonight. brady? matt, renee -- police told me a 21-year-old woman was walking along east 15th avenue and hilyard street earlier this morning around 12-30... when a man approached her, threatened her with a handgun.. and robbed her. i spoke to neighbors nearby who are shocked that this has happened twice in one week. "pretty frightening as a women to be afraid that someone could just jump out with you with a gun and rob you." for the second time since march 3rd a woman walking near hilyard and east 15th avenue at night was held at gunpoint. "i feel like stuff has happened in the past, but you don't really hear someone with a gun like attacking women. that's a lot more intense before, especially consistently happening and it being different people. police say the suspect threatened a 21-year-old woman with a gun, stole her money and then took off. they say they were quick to respond... but couldn't find the man. which has left many including kate templeton who lives nearby -- feeling scared to walk alone ... "as a 21-year-old woman who does frequent the bars on campus, it does really frighten me that there is someone walking around with a gun, targeting specifically college women that are alone. i know, i usually walk home with friends but there has been nights where i have gone home alone and personally now i'm scared to do that." thursday morning's suspect is described as a white man... between 5-10 and 6 feet tall..with a medium build. the suspect in saturday morning's robbery, that also involved a 21-year-old woman, was described as a black man in his 20's, six feet tall, with a possible nose piercing. police say they have increased their presence in the area and want people to be aware of their surroundings when they're walking alone ... something templeton is taking to heart. "i say for all women definitely be aware of your surroundings at all times and always walk home with a friend or with someone. don't walk home alone just because you really don't know what's going to happen and it seems really safe here but anything could happen." police are still investigating whether the robberies are linked. live in
