EUGENE, Ore. – A University of Oregon football player has been released from jail after he was accused of damaging and removing a parking boot from his car.
Senior linebacker Fotu Leiato made his first court appearance on Thursday after being booked into the Lane County Jail Wednesday evening.
He has been charged with criminal mischief and theft.
Police said he was also arrested on an unrelated warrant because he missed a court appearance for a criminal trespass charge. That warrant was issued about three weeks ago.
Oregon head football coach Mario Cristobal released a statement on Leiato’s arrest.
"We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering all of the information,” Cristobal said. “We hold our student-athletes to high standards and will take appropriate action once all of the facts have been reviewed."
