OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The number one seed in the Women’s College World Series is one loss from elimination and a trip back to Eugene.

Oregon lost Friday night to PAC-12 rival Washington 6-2. The loss sends the Ducks into the consolation bracket and a loser out game on Saturday.

After scoring 11 runs in their opening game on Friday, the Ducks were shut down by Washington ace Gabbie Plain. Plain kept the Oregon bats scoreless for six innings. Oregon would score twice in the seventh to avoid the shutout.

Oregon ace Megan Kleist matched Plain through four innings. Kleist faced the minimum number of batters through three innings, and allowed just one hit in the fourth.

The fifth inning was a different story for Washington as they put four runs on the board. The first two Huskies safely reached base. After an out, Kleist walked a batter to load the bases. The next batter hit a ball to D.J. Sanders, but her throw was off line and went to the backstop, allowing the first run to score.

The Huskies added three more runs on back to back singles, and a controversial play at the plate where Oregon catcher Gwen Svekis was called for obstructing a Washington runner.

The Huskies added two more runs in the sixth before Oregon scored twice in the seventh inning to complete the scoring.

The Ducks will play to stay alive in the tournament on Saturday facing the winner of Georgia and Florida State. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
