Eugene, OR -- Oregon baseball dropped its Pac-12 opener to Washington at home, 9-3.

The Ducks took a 3-2 lead after an Aaron Zavala RBI single in the fourth inning.

The Huskies tallied five runs in the fifth inning capped off by a two-RBI single from Braiden Ward. Washington also received a two-run home run from Connor Blair in the inning.

"In this league teams make runs at you," Oregon head coach George Horton said. "It's kind of like watching the Pac-12 basketball tournament right now. Teams are going to have runs and Pac-12 baseball is awfully difficult. If we thought this was going to be a walk in the park in the conference then shame on me for not conveying that to the guys."

Cullen Kafka suffers his first lost start of the season after lasting just 4.2 innings allowing four runs on 11 hits.

The Huskies received a quality start from David Rhodes who went 6.0 inning giving up just three runs on four hits. Oregon had no player record multiple hits.

With the loss the Ducks drop to 10-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Game two of the three-game series is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday from PK Park.
