Duck Women's Hoops advances, beats Portland State by 38

Eugene, Ore. -- Oregon women's basketball took a big step towards their pursuit of a national championship on Friday night, defeating Portland State in emphatic fashion, 78-40. The Ducks will take on the 10th seed in the bracket, Indiana in the second round on Sunday in Eugene.

Medford native Ashley Bolton paced the Big Sky Champion Vikings with 19 points, but was overshadowed by a team performance from the Ducks. Looming the largest was Oregon guard Satou Sabally, who struggled in the Pac-12 Tournament but regained her form with a 21 point, 16 rebound performance.

The Ducks lead started small deep into the first quarter, but eventually extended their lead to 10 in the second and then to 26 by the start of the fourth. From there, Oregon continued to push the margin larder and larger, until they settled on 38, punching their ticket to the next round.

Tip-off for the Sunday, March 24th second round game will be at 6:00 pm at Matthew Knight Arena.
