Knute Buehler projected winner of GOP governor primary

Buehler will face Gov. Kate Brown in November.

SALEM, Ore. -- State Rep. Knute Buehler will face Gov. Kate Brown in November after both won their party's nomination for governor in Tuesday's primary race.

Brown, the incumbent, received 80 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary. She was up against two other Democrat candidates, Ed Jones and Candace Neville, who received 9 percent and 8 percent of the vote respectively.

In the Republican primary, Buehler took the lead with 49 percent of the vote, as of 8 p.m. Tuesday. Buehler faced nine opponents, including Sam Carpenter who won 29 percent of the vote, and Greg Wooldridge who took 17 percent of the vote.

The write-in option had the most votes in the Independent primary, with 53 percent. Patrick Starnes won 27 percent, Skye Allen had 11 percent and Dan Pistoresi had 8 percent.
