SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- The Delta-Beltine interchange is getting an overhaul, and the team behind the massive project is Hamilton Construction.

Hamilton Construction is a Springfield-based company responsible for major projects not just in our area but all over the west coast.

While many industries have slowed or halted during the pandemic, construction is full speed ahead. The need for workers is as strong as it's ever been.

Hamilton hosts an apprenticeship program partnered with Northwest College of Construction in carpentry and laboring crafts. You begin as an apprentice -- but what's the opportunity to rise up in the company?

Aren Mowreader, a second year apprentice, says the opportunities for growth are endless.

"Sky's the limit really," said Mowreader. "Just depends how much you want to work, how hard you want to work, how willing you are to learn new things. One of the project managers here at Hamilton started out doing this."

He also said being willing to learn is an integral way to be successful in the trade.

"Teamwork, asking questions, being willing to say I don't know that much about this, but I want to -- that's huge," Mowreader added. "It just open doors for you and you get to learn stuff. It's cool."

The program is four years total combining on-site training and classwork, which Mowreader said is now all online due to COVID-19.

He says he started at $23 an hour, and after six months, he got a raise and was making $32 an hour -- a wage that will only grow over time.

Hamilton Construction hires apprentices year-round and said they are always looking for people willing to work.
