EUGENE, Ore -- Company officials for an in-home senior care business are warning seniors about a woman they claim is posing as one of their caregivers and stealing medication from people's homes.

Ed Emberlin, co-owner of the Eugene franchise for Visiting Angels, said the woman has been posing as one of their staff and has victimized at least two people at Senior Community mobile home parks in Junction City and Eugene. He said he doesn't believe it's one of his employees.

"The people that match the description, we've looked at those people and have a really good feeling for them and have a long-standing history with them so we don't believe it is," Emberlin said.

Patricia Little and her husband are some of the victims. She said on Tuesday afternoon a woman who claimed she was with the company came to their door and said she was having car troubles and wanted to use their phone. Then once inside, Little said she claimed to have a kidney stone and asked to use the bathroom. Little said it wasn't till in the evening she realized her husband's opioid painkillers were gone.

"Even after we discovered the pain meds gone I just thought, couldn't be," Little said. "But she's the only person who's been in here; we haven't had our neighbor in over a week or more."

Cheryl Rogers, the director of the franchise, said their staff always wear a badge and a lanyard to identify themselves. She is warning seniors not to be too trustworthy and not to let strangers into their homes.

"Seniors can sometimes be trusting, even maybe naive to what someone may be trying to do," Rogers said.

The Eugene Police department is investigating and at last check, no arrests have been made.
