COOS COUNTY-- A woman is in the Lane County Jail, facing a manslaughter charge. This comes after her involvement in a crash on Feb. 29 that resulted in the death of her daughter, Madilynn Sokol.
Nichole Ruth Sokol, 28, faces charges of manslaughter in the first degree, assault in the second degree, assault in the third degree, DUII, reckless driving and three counts of recklessly endangering another person.
KEZI reached out to Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier for comment.
“This is based on a grand jury indictment. I cannot comment on this until she makes her first court appearance,” Frasier said.
An indictment was filed on June 30 by the Grand Jury of the County of Coos.
According to the indictment, "the defendant, on or about February 29, 2020, in Coos County, Oregon, did unlawfully and recklessly under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, cause the death of Madilynn Sokol, another human being."
Sokol was arrested and booked in the Lane County Jail on Saturday after a warrant was issued.
