EUGENE, Ore. – Police arrested a woman Tuesday night who was reportedly driving her van in reverse in an alley and posing a risk to pedestrians.
Eugene police were flagged down by witnesses who reported seeing an intoxicated driver who they feared might run someone over.
Police said they spotted the driver, Gretchen Alisa Watkins, 49, driving her van in reverse and yelling as she leaned out the window in an alley near Luckey’s Club, 933 Olive Street. Watkins got out of the van after an officer shined a flashlight at her and ordered her to stop.
The officer took Watkins into custody after discovering there was a warrant for her arrest. Police said she was uncooperative during the arrest and kicked the inside of a patrol car on the way to Lane County Jail, causing significant damage to the inside door and partition area.
She was jailed on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief in the first degree. She also had a warrant for DUII failure to appear out of Lane County, police said.
