SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Springfield Police Department said it arrested a woman over the weekend after she threatened to shoot people at the Walmart on Olympic Street.

Police said they received a call around 10:46 p.m. Saturday after Samantha Dawn Weekly, 30, approached an employee at the self-checkout and told him she had a gun and was going to rob the store.

Nearby officers responded to the chaotic scene as customers attempted to evacuate or hide in the store.

When they arrived, they said Weekly was standing near the front of the store with what they later discovered was a starter pistol -- similar to what is seen at a track meet -- in her pocket.

She allegedly told them she didn't realize it wasn't a real gun and said she wanted to harm people.

Weekly was taken into custody without incident within 6 minutes of the arrival of Springfield police.

She faces multiple charges including menacing, disorderly conduct, and unlawful possession of heroin.
