MOSIER, Ore.-- A human-caused fire that started early Wednesday evening has now grown to 800 acres in the Columbia River Gorge near Mosier.

The Mosier Creek Fire started around 6:45 p.m. and was originally 50 acres, but by nightfall it had grown to 500 acres.

According to the Oregon Department of Forestry, active fire behavior in some areas hindered fire crews' efforts to get containment lines overnight. Firefighters plan to work Thursday to strengthen the fireline and continue direct tactics to establish a line around the fire.

The Northwest Coordination Center reports that the fire is human-caused and containment is at 5 percent.

A total of 900 homes are currently threatened.

According to the Wasco County Sheriffs Office, 150 homes are under Level 3 (GO) evacuation orders. Here is an explanation of what the different evacuation orders mean.
