CORVALLIS, Ore. – A Washington man was arrested in Benton County, accused of trying to lure a child online.

Daniel Baldie, 33, of Vancouver was taken into custody on Friday after a two-and-a-half week undercover operation by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

In January, a deputy posed as a minor and responded to an online ad seeking “younger girls,” the sheriff’s office said. During the conversation, Baldie reportedly offered to drive to Corvallis to meet the child and drive her back to Vancouver for sex.

Baldie was arrested when he arrived, deputies said. He was taken to the Benton County Jail and faces charges of luring a minor, first-degree online sexual corruption of a child and attempted using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct.

Vancouver police then searched Baldie’s home and interviewed his wife as a possible co-conspirator for second-degree attempted rape of a child. Several electronic devices were seized for examination, and the couple’s three children were taken into protective custody.

The public should report any suspicions of online enticement of children to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children by clicking here or calling 1-800-843-5678, police said.
