Local non-profit holds bystander training class Sunday

Organizers say with rising hate crime violence in the country, more classes like this are needed.

EUGENE, Ore. – A local non-profit called Warrior Sisters held a bystander training class Sunday at the Art of War MMA in Eugene.

The class started with men and women discussing tactics for intervening if they ever saw someone in danger.

Organizers said with rising hate crime violence in the country, more classes like this are needed.

Chelsea Van, an instructor, said the point of the class was to teach the importance of being an active part in helping fellow community members.

"I think that when you participate in your community, you’re also an active participate in your own well-being and your own thriving in your setting and your environment," Van said. "You are everyone around you."
