UCC holds 4th annual Day of Remembrance

A private event was held at 10 a.m. for those affected by the shooting on Oct. 1, 2015.

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Umpqua Community College administration held their fourth annual Day of Remembrance to honor the nine victims of the Umpqua Community College shooting on Oct. 1, 2015.

UCC staff, students, community members, law enforcement and family members of the victims were all in attendance.

“It was a horrible thing,” said community member William Eifert. "It’s something I’ll never forget. It’s something I never thought would happen.”

Attendees listened to remarks from UCC President Dr. Debra Thatcher and Kelly Wright, a victim advocate.

The ceremony was followed by a moment of silence and a reading of the victims’ names.

The flag in front of the administration building flew at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday to honor those lost, as approved by Gov. Kate Brown.
