JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- The Lane County District Attorney's office added 14 new charges, including nine new felonies, to the case of a Junction City man accused of beating his pregnant girlfriend and her therapy dog.
Notably, two charges of first-degree rape were included in the new charges, along with three counts of sexual abuse.
Juan Mejia was arrested in Vancouver, Washington, after a multi-state investigation led by the Junction City Police Department. He was originally charged with one count of felony assault and one count of misdemeanor assault.
According to the newly-filed charges, Mejia began abusing the victim in November. On one occasion, he allegedly used steel-toed boots to assault her.
In an earlier charge, he was accused of punching the woman in the abdomen while she was pregnant.
Mejia also allegedly tortured the victim's German Shepherd therapy dog.
