Two new cougar sightings reported in Springfield

A cougar was spotted in a neighborhood just south of Riverbend Hospital.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- After two recent cougar sightings on Wayside Loop in Springfield, police and Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife officials have issued a new alert.

On Friday at 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., a cougar was spotted in the densely populated residential neighborhood around Robin Park, which is popular with children. The neighborhood is just south of Riverbend Hospital.

A neighborhood notification message was sent to residents in the area.

Predatory cats can be attracted to the sounds of children at play and police again warn parents and supervisors to be vigilant and to report any cougar sightings.
