Springfield, OR -- For the third time in four years, the Springfield Millers have a new head football coach. Miles Haley was officially hired August 21st, two days into fall camp.

With the Miller's first game just three weeks after the start of camp, time is against the first time head coach and his staff to build a bond with his new time.

"Obviously it's not ideal, but we really believe in this guy and what he wants to do," said senior quarterback, Braeden Lowe. "And we're really proud of the way he's trying to bring pride back into Springfield."

With a lot of pride and energy, Haley hopes to breathe life into the Millers and see a different result on the field this season.

"We want to change the entire preconception of the program, outside, inside," said Haley. "You know we want to make sure that our own kids believe in what we're doing. Believe in themselves believe in this team."

Last year, Springfield finished the season (2-7), but with a change in leadership and a more vocal senior group, they vowe to change that this season.

Senior receiver, Hunter Reininger said, "We all just want it, have it to be a year to remember. Obviously we want to win, we want to win a lot of games."

Even though Haley and his staff have a limited time to put their imprint on this roster, he does have the benefit of being able to relate to his players on another level. Returning to his alma mater, haley went through similar situations that his players are now enduring.

"It means the world. Like it's great knowing that we have a coach knowing everything that goes on around the town and how it is. He said multiple times that even he had multiple coaches, and a lot of former football coaches here have had multiple coaches and knows the struggles," said Lowe.

The Millers will kick their season off on the road at North Eugene on September 6th.
