DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- Douglas Forest Protective Association stayed busy over the weekend as they battled another brush fire two miles northeast of Myrtle Creek.

Officials said the fire started in a travel trailer and spread to the surrounding area Sunday around 6:20 p.m. near the 1200 block of Spring Brook Road.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire had spread from the travel trailer to two passenger vehicles and an outbuilding. Officials told KEZI 9 News the fire was slowly moving up the hillside.

Firefighters quickly contained the wildland portion of the fire in large part due to fuel reduction work that had been completed on the property in years past through the Firewise USA program.

That treatment focused on removing ladder fuels, which consists of brush and young trees that are mixed in and around the dominate trees. By reducing the fuels a fire is more likely to stay on the ground and burn less intensely, which is exactly what was observed on the Spring Brook Road Fire.

The Spring Brook Road Fire burned 1/10th of an acre of wildland fuels.

Two passenger vehicles and an out building were fully consumed by the fire.
