SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- Deputies arrested a man after they said he fought with an officer and tried to run away during a traffic stop.

They said an officer pulled over a Dodge pickup on I-5 southbound near milepost 132 early Friday morning.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered that the driver, Nickolas John Kaisershot, didn't have a valid driver's license.

The officer tried to arrest Kaisershot but he fought back. The officer was injured in the struggle and Kaisershot ran off into a nearby field.

Back up arrived, and a police dog helped find him.

Kaiser was found in a large berry patch near the interstate and once again failed to cooperate with officers. The police dog ended up biting Kaisershot.

He was taken to the hospital to be treated. He was arrested on charges of assault on a public safety officer, resisting arrest, driving while suspended, escape, and harassment.

The injured officer was also taken to the hospital. He was treated and released.
