CRESWELL, Ore. -- Springfield Public Schools announced that Creswell Superintendent Todd Hamilton will be its next superintendent.

"Thank you for eight meaningful and productive years working with students, staff, parents, and community members to prepare Creswell students for success," Hamilton wrote in a statement. "It has been a deep and satisfying pleasure to work with so many caring and compassionate educators and community members."

Springfield officials said that on Monday night "the board is expected to formalize the hire and authorize the chair to enter into contract negotiations on their behalf."

Sally Storm, executive director of the Springfield Education Foundation, has worked alongside Hamilton for six years and said he is the epitome of a family man.

Storm said families and students in Springfield can expect a personable guy who is known for being good at communicating and following through on what he says he's going to do. Storm told KEZI 9 News that Hamilton wants to have a close relationship with those in the community.

"I know he will have an open door and he will want parents to come through that door," Storm said.

School board director Zach Bessett said the choice to make Hamilton the new superintendent was an easy one.

"He locally has the resources and connections already made with the board and other superintendents, and that local accountability and connections I think is huge," Bessett said.

Bessett said the community will be happy about Hamilton taking this new role because they all were involved in the process before the interviews even began.

The board asked people what traits were most important for them to see in a superintendent. Bessett said Hamilton exemplifies exactly what the community said they wanted.

Hamilton will start in Springfield in July.

The Creswell school board will begin a new search in the coming weeks, officials there said.
