EUGENE, Ore. -- Much-needed supplies for those affected by the Bootleg Fire in Klamath County will soon be on the way.
Timber Unity started collecting donations of things like animal feed, camping supplies and toiletries for those affected by the fire. The group has placed collection barrels across counties including Lane, Linn, Douglas, Coos and many others.
Angelita Sanchez, Timber Unity Association Secretary, said the response so far has been huge.
“It's overwhelming support and people have been so generous,” Sanchez said. “We have more toiletries and things donated than we even know how to handle.”
The group received so many supplies and donations that they started working with other aid groups like Cascade Relief Team to help out.
Sanchez said Timber Unity members plan to drive some of the supplies down to the town of Bly on Saturday. The items being collected are the types of things people would need after evacuating their homes quickly, including phone chargers, hygiene items, gas cards, pet food and batteries. The fire is now 30% contained and has burned nearly 365,000 acres.
