SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- With evacuation levels changing constantly, Oregonians are figuring out their next steps, as the wildfires continue to burn.

RELATED: EVACUATION LEVELS LOWERED AROUND THURSTON, PARTS OF MOHAWK VALLEY

Yesterday, evacuation levels were lowered around Thurston and parts of Mohawk Valley. Many residents were relieved to hear that evacuation levels dropped, even those who are still in Level 1.

“We’ve been packed up for a couple of days, and we’re ready to go,” Thurston resident Chuck Carlson said. “We’re in a scary situation. We have friends up the river who lost their houses, and we just don't know what's going on. Nobody knows how close the fire is and what to do.”

Thurston resident Phyllis Emminger said she’s not taking any chances.

“I have my car half packed,” Emminger said. “I have more stuff by the front door just in case, because you never know. Winds change.”

Emminger said that most of her neighbors are back home, but people have been in and out.

“It’s really really heartbreaking, especially for those who have lost everything,” Emminger said.

Many described walking outside Sunday morning and being unable to see their mailbox or other nearby objects. Some shared that they’re ready for anything that could arise, because things can change at a moment’s notice.

The community is advised to continue following the evacuation levels in place.

You can check the evacuation level for your address with a new tool on the Lane County website.
