EUGENE, Ore. -- The Oregon Employment Department recorded over 36,000 claims for unemployment benefits this week.
Since March 15 there have been 333,700 claims filed.
The agency said it’s expanding its capacity by adding 520 employees dedicated to taking claims.
They are also launching the pandemic unemployment assistance program to allow the self-employed, contract workers, and others who would usually not be eligible for benefits to obtain them.
The new program is expected to open by the end of the month.
