EUGENE, Ore. -- Thousands of homeowners made their way to the Lane Events Center to attend the 13th Annual Good Earth Home, Garden & Living Show with hopes of becoming more sustainable.

Organizers said the annual event is the longest running sustainable home show in North America. They estimate more than 24,000 people attended the 3-day event over the weekend.

This year there were 220 sustainable exhibits, and 58 seminars and workshops.

One of the organizations featured at this year's event was ShelterBox USA which helps provide emergency aid to families who lost everything to natural disasters.

Jim McCarthy, with ShelterBox USA said they offer tents, water filters, solar lights, and other tools for recovery. He said their most popular form of aid are their "ShelterBox Shelter Tool Kits" that help repair damaged homes.

Last year alone, they provided 30,000 kits to families in need, with each kit containing ropes, plastic sheeting and other tools to help families get back on their feet.

“Millions of people around the world are losing their homes to disasters, and the disasters are getting bigger and more frequent than they used to be,” said McCarthy. “So the need is continuing to grow.”

McCarthy said they served 162,000 people recovering from natural disasters. Their goal this year is to serve 200,000 people.
