ROSEBURG, Ore. – A theft suspect was arrested Thursday in Roseburg, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to a home in the 1000 block of Shadow Ranch Lane at about 2:30 a.m. They received a report of a suspicious man outside the home.
Upon arriving deputies said they found Mathew Kelm, 40, of Wilbur looking through the trunk of a parked vehicle. They said Kelm told them it was his home, but the homeowner came outside, and Kelm reportedly pushed the person down and tried to run away.
Kelm was arrested following a short chase, deputies said. They said he tried to resist arrest but was taken into custody.
Authorities said the homeowner was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Kelm was taken to the Douglas County Jail. He faces charges of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, second-degree theft, resisting arrest, fourth-degree assault, second-degree criminal mischief, and an arrest warrant.
