TENMILE, Ore. – Staff at Tenmile Rural Fire District are organizing a fundraiser for one of their volunteer firefighters who is fighting cancer for the second time.
Staff say Rick Perry has been with Tenmile fire for a year. They say they learned he was diagnosed be B-cell lymphoma a few weeks ago.
They say they wanted to do something to help Perry, that’s why they’re organizing a fundraiser to help him pay for medical bills and other expenses while he undergoes six months of chemotherapy.
The fundraiser will consist of live entertainment, a barbecue and a silent auction.
“I can’t tell the Tenmile fire department how much I love them,” said Perry. “Each and every one of them. They are my brothers and sisters.”
Kenny Gregory, the lead organizer of the fundraiser, says they already have donations from more than ten businesses in Douglas County. He says they hope to raise more during the fundraiser.
“$30,000 or $40,000 would be wonderful," said Gregory. “But if we raised a single dollar that would be a blessing.”
The fundraiser will be held at the Winston Community Center on January 10th at 7pm. Gregory says it will be $10 dollars at the door.
