ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) -- Two tall ships plan to visit Astoria and Coos Bay this summer after they were unable to find moorage at the Port of Newport.

The Daily Astorian reports that port commissioners in Newport revoked a permit for the Lady Washington and the Hawaiian Chieftain to use a dock in late July. Bayfront merchants and fishermen sought the action because they were concerned about the extra crowds and potential parking nightmare that come with a visit from the tall ships.

The ships will be at the dock in Coos Bay from July 12 to July 25. They will arrive in Astoria July 26. Sailing and dockside tours will begin the next day.
