EUGENE, Ore. – A man was arrested in Eugene after a resident called 911 to report a break-in overnight Monday.

Police responded to the 1600 block of Hilyard Street at about 1 a.m. The woman said she heard someone trying to kick down her basement door. Everyone evacuated the home as police arrived.

Authorities said because the suspect was hidden in an area filled with items, they sent in police dog Cwyk, who found the suspect in a small crawl space that had been barricaded.

Police said they arrested Steven Purkey, 41. He was taken to the Lane County Jail and faces charges of first-degree criminal trespass and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
