Student accused of bringing shotgun to Portland High School identified

Police identified the suspect Saturday as 18-year-old Angel Granados Dias.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A student is in custody after bringing a shotgun to Parkrose High School in Portland.

Police identified the suspect Saturday as 18-year-old Angel Granados Dias.

Dias was charged with possession of firearm in a public building, attempting to discharge a firearm at a school, reckless endangerment and possession of a loaded firearm in a public place.

Dias was tacked and wrestled to the ground bu the school's football coach, former University of Oregon football player Keanon Lowe, witnesses say.

No one was injured

Parkrose superintendent Michael Lopes-Serrao said two students informed a staff member about concerning behavior from the suspect.

"Our security staff responded and found the student with a gun and quickly disarmed the student. Thanks to their heroic efforts all students and staff are safe," Lopes-Serrao said in a letter sent Friday night.

School will resume as usual on Monday. There will be additional counseling for students and staff throughout the week, as well as an increased security presence.
