SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Hundreds of families in Lane County will be able to eat a delicious meal for the holidays after several volunteers with St. Vincent de Paul handed out free holiday food boxes.

Volunteers met at St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield Wednesday.

Several families drove by to pick up their free holiday food box that contained turkey, ham, bread and potatoes.

Organizers said St. Vincent de Paul has been doing this annual holiday program for more than 20 years and it has really made a difference.

"It just makes me happy to be able to do and give knowing that hopefully for that special day no one will go hungry and that means a lot," Betty Snowden said.

She said they have been handing out holiday boxes throughout the week and expect to give away more than 3,000 holiday boxes to families in need.
