SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- No books or computers were damaged in the flooding that closed the Springfield Public Library Monday, Sept. 10.

A water heater ruptured, and water spilled into the staff workroom, public meeting room and part of the main library.

The library reopened Wednesday, Sept. 13, and staff said they’re lucky, as it could have been a lot worse.

“To walk in and find that it was mostly on the floor, and although it’s inconvenient and not a good situation, it’s definitely not as bad as it could have been if it had come from above and hit the books,” Library Director Emily David said about the situation.

During the closure, people could still drop off books, and online services remained available.
