SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Despite the pandemic, Springfield Public Schools is still finding a way to honor its graduating seniors.

The district started holding individual graduation ceremonies on Tuesday.

Springfield High School will film their graduations this week with Thurston High School, and the Academy of Arts and Academics and Gateways High School will film theirs next week.

Each individual ceremony is complete with a graduate wearing their cap and gown walking across the stage with their name announced.

The individual graduations were recorded and will be compiled together into a full commencement video that will be available in June.

David Ceja, a graduating senior, said he was thrilled the district is doing something to honor the graduates.

"I was super ecstatic to find out we were at least going to have something put together by our schools," Ceja said. "I was really appreciative of the opportunity to at least have graduation face to face. At least with some people. Even if not everyone is there."
