Springfield Police holding prescription drug take back event

This initiative addresses a public safety and health issue and is aimed at preventing pill abuse and theft.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- People are encouraged to get rid of unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs, by participating in this year's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. 

This initiative addresses a public safety and health issue and is aimed at preventing pill abuse and theft. 

The Springfield Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration is hosting the event on Saturday, Oct. 24. People can bring prescription drugs to the Justice Center at 230 4th Street. 

The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles.
