Springfield honors Indigenous Peoples’ Day

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- The City of Springfield is honoring Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Monday.

All community members are invited to participate in this free community event at Springfield City Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

At 4 p.m., the city will host a Tribal Flag Raising Ceremony with flags from the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon.

Springfield Mayor Christine Lundberg will make welcoming remarks and a land acknowledgement at the ceremony.

The flags will be hanging through Friday.

The event also includes a Native Artist Gallery, a Native Youth and Family Identity Exhibit, information and resources and book recommendations at the Springfield Public Library.

The Native Artist Gallery and the Native Youth Identity Exhibit will be on display throughout the month of October.
