SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Springfield Police officers are actively searching for a suspect who they believe struck a man with a rifle.

The call came in around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday and started off as an armed dispute on Janus Street in Springfield.

One victim was reportedly hit with a gun and was later found walking in the area with two large lacerations in his head, police said.

Police said the suspect left the scene in a car, which led to a high speed chase that started near Aspen Street and ended near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Kinsrow Avenue in Eugene.

They said then the suspect fled on foot into a wooded area near the apartment complexes but ultimately, the suspect was not located.

Officers located an M4 rifle inside the car along with other evidence, police said.

They also said the subjects involved are not fully cooperating with officers.

Anyone with information is asked to call Springfield Police at 541-726-3714.
