SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- The Springfield City Council did not make a decision on the future of the Patrician mobile home park Monday night.

Residents will have to wait another two weeks to learn the future of the park, which contains 81 manufactured and mobile homes for residents 55-years-old and older. The final vote is now set for Oct. 21.

Patrician resident Jo Manning has been at every city council meeting since the beginning.

"I'm tired. I'm tired of fighting. I'm not a fighter. We spoke our minds, and I think we were heard, but we still have nowhere to go," Manning said.

A week before Monday’s city council meeting, the Patrician landlord sent out a letter asking residents to sign an amendment to their lease that would ensure the park would stay open through January 2023.

But Patrician resident Susan Stoltenberg did not see any point in signing it because the rezoning process will take up to three years after approval.

"It doesn't buy any time at all. It was a ruse, actually," Stoltenberg said.

Urban Transitions LLC wants to rezone the 13.6-acre park to mixed-use commercial in order to develop new restaurants, businesses and apartments in its place.

The Springfield City Council ended public hearings on the matter on Sept. 16. The city council heard more than an hour of public comments on the proposed rezoning of the park that Monday. All but one of the speakers pleaded with the city council to keep the Patrician Mobile Home Park zoned as low-density residential.

Congressman Peter DeFazio even sent a letter to the council voicing his support for the residents.
