COOS COUNTY, OR. -- It's nesting season for the Snowy Plover on the Oregon coast, and the Coos County Bureau of Land Management asks the public to take precautions for the sake of these birds.

The small birds nest on the dry beach areas on the North Spit in North Bend, and the Floras River/New Lake area south of Bandon.

Megan Harper from Coos County BLM said there are restrictions in place in these areas.

“On the dry sand, of course, there’s no entry. On the wet sand, on these two..three areas, there’s no dogs, no kites, no campfires. You’re free to walk, enjoy the beach, but if you’d like to take your dog or do any of those things, we really ask that you go to one of the other beaches in the area.”

The BLM said these restrictions will be in place from March 15 through September 15.

Once the ocean tides are lower, there will be more signs up around these areas.
