Smoldering, creeping fire activity observed near Terwilliger Hot Springs

Officials said light smoke may be visible in the area.

RAINBOW, Ore. -- Firefighters responded to a small area of rekindled heat located off Aufderheide Drive, about a mile north of the Terwilliger Hot Springs trailhead, Friday. 

Officials with the U.S. Forest Service said smoldering and creeping fire activity within the footprint of the 2018 Terwilliger Fire, in a previously burned area, was observed.

Officials said warm and dry conditions are a common cause of reburns, even following the winter months. 

Visitors are encouraged to be cautious due to increased fire traffic. Officials said light smoke may be visible in the area.
