Skilled to work: Roseburg students take home national awards

Roseburg students from different leadership and career technical clubs went to national competitions, earning multiple awards.

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Roseburg High School Career and Technical Education students won multiple awards at national competitions this year.

RHS students Katlyn Kailiuli and Alexandria Cortes were honored with the America Award, the highest level in Future Business Leaders of America's Business Achievement Awards.

To earn the award, students need to first earn three other levels of BAA and then complete more than 25 specialized activities in three areas: service, progress and education.

The Roseburg FBLA group was honored as an Outstanding Local Chapter and received the Gold Seal of Merit.

Students from Roseburg FBLA competed in marketing, entrepreneurship, public speaking, partnership with business project, personal finance, business calculations, accounting, introduction to business, introduction to business procedures, introduction to public speaking, introduction to FBLA, journalism, emerging business issues, sales presentation, securities and investments, agribusiness and management decision making.

RHS students Bryce Knott and Jordan Smith competed at this year’s SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. The pair formed a 3-D Animation team and received 19th place.

Members of Roseburg’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America attended that group’s National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 28 to July 2.

The RHS culinary team of Zach Shilts, Kaitlynn Kienel and Maryn Wicks received a bronze medal, while fellow RHS student Diana Darling received a silver medal for her Focus on Children project.
