EUGENE, Ore. -- Lane Community College is offering students a two-year Aviation Maintenance Technology Program in hopes of replenishing the workforce in the aviation field.

KEZI spoke with Pat O'Connor, the Dean of Advanced Technology with LCC. He said their program is a great for people who are interested in planes and working with their hands.

O'Connor said LCC's program allows students to get hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment. The program provides 45 subject areas of instruction and primarily focuses on preventative maintenance and service work in the aviation field.

O'Connor said workers in the aviation field are in high demand right now because many of the workers are retiring. So it's an essential time to replenish the workforce.

"We have a lot of people that are retiring right now. And to have an opportunity to have this training, and you can take it anywhere and it pays well,” O’Connor said. “So, there's a big demand for this, and most of our graduates have jobs almost immediately after they graduate."

He said at the end of the program, students will earn an Airframe and Powerplant Certificate which will allow them to work on a wide variety of planes.

For more information on the program, people can go to their open house LCC is hosting Aug. 25 at 9 a.m. It will be held at the LCC Aviation Technology hangar located just south of the Eugene Airport terminal at 28735 Airport Road, Eugene.
