Fatal crash on Highway 34 under investigation

Speed and weather are being investigated as contributing factors.

LEBANON, Ore. -- One person is dead following a three-vehicle crash on Sunday 

The crash happened at about 7:30 p.m. on Highway 34 near milepost 15.  

A preliminary investigation shows that a Pontiac G5 driven by 54-year-old Darin Kleiven of Sweet Home was heading westbound, when for unknown reasons it crossed into the oncoming lanes and hit a Mack semi-truck. 

A Jeep Patriot was following the semi-truck and was hit by debris from the crash.

Kleiven was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other drivers involved were uninjured. 

Highway 34 was closed for about four hours. Speed and weather are being investigated as contributing factors to the crash. 

Oregon State Police was assisted by Lebanon Fire Department, Lebanon Police Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
