SWEET HOME, Ore. – Bystanders rescued an 8-year-old trapped by a log at McKercher Park on Tuesday.

The girl was freed by the time rescuers arrived.

Three of the bystanders that helped rescue the girl help firefighters place caution tape on the water channel that leads to the hazard. Left to right: Cameron Harris, Torell Ireton, Caleb Ritcher.

Torell Ireton (L) and Cameron Harris (R) identify the area where both victims got trapped.

It’s the second time a child has been trapped at the location in recent days, the Sweet Home Fire District said. A 10-year-old boy was rescued over the weekend.

The cause of both incidents was a log wedged beneath the surface of the water.

Officials urge people to avoid the area until the hazard can be removed. Members of the Sweet Home Fire dive team have volunteered to help with removing the log.

Cameron Harris, Torell Ireton, Caleb Ritcher and Dakota Hufled all assisted with Tuesday's rescue. Officials said Ireton, who's from Salem, also helped in Sunday's rescue.
