EUGENE, Ore. -- The search for the suspect involved in a stolen vehicle continues after Eugene Police spotted the stolen vehicle on Friday.
On Friday at 7:32 p.m. an officer with EPD was in the area of East 11th Avenue and Mill Street and spotted a Chevrolet Suburban driving erratically. The officer noticed the vehicle did not have a license plate and was listed as recently stolen.
The officer began to follow the car and asked for other officers to assist. The vehicle did not slow down and was driving northbound on High Street, making several unsafe lane changes, running a red light, and disregarding cross traffic.
The officer tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver did not stop and continued driving through a parking lot on East 10th Avenue, eventually ramming a chain-link fence and running over several parking blocks.
EPD lost the vehicle for a short time, but pedestrians in the area helped point out the direction the vehicle had gone. The driver had made an unsafe turn onto Ferry Street from East Broadway and the two occupants in the vehicle got out and ran after the vehicle received a flat tire.
The passenger of the vehicle, 25-year-old Dustin Jeffrey Shannon was found in front of a credit union at East 11th Avenue and Ferry Street. He was arrested and taken to Lane County Jail on a warrant and also Unlawful use of a vehicle.
EPD is still searching for the driver.
