EUGENE, Ore. -- Jaeden Frye is a freshman at South Eugene High School with size 18 feet -- size 18 wide feet.
A quick search of the internet, and you'll find all kinds of 18s. And, there are even options in 18 wide for athletic shoes. But, it's nearly impossible to find 18 wides in basketball shoes.
His mom, Lindsey Frye, said he has one pair right now, and he wears them for everything, including basketball. She said it's not ideal, but they have no other choice.
Lindsey said she's tried it all to find Jaeden basketball shoes. She's checked every store she can think of and scoured website after website.
"I've literally been on Twitter. I've tagged Shaq and Damian Lillard. Nothing, because those folks are pretty much untouchable for the regular person. Even if we find these shoes, it's like a couple of hundred dollars. It's literally our food budget for the month, so I'm like do we eat or does he have shoes?"
Jaeden said he's always had big feet and they come with advantages and disadvantages.
"It's harder to find shoes and sometimes when you're walking around, since you have to get bigger shoes to accommodate your bigger feet, you end up tripping, or if you're playing basketball you end up not dribbling right," the 6-feet-2-inches tall, 250 pound freshman said.
They both said they think his feet are still growing. Lindsey wears a size 12 in mens shoes.
Jaeden plans to turn out for the football team in the fall, so they'll have to find cleats too.
Note: KEZI 9 News anchor Renee McCullough contacted Nike on Wednesday and they said they don't even special order a size 18 wide in basketball shoes. We also contacted Oddball Shoes and were told they don't carry any basketball shoes in those sizes because none of the big companies make them.
