The fire was reported Tuesday afternoon near the North Santiam State Recreational Area off Highway 22. It grew to 189 acres.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No structures were lost and no injuries have been reported.

Allison Blair took over as incident commander Thursday.

“Seeing the dedication of our firefighters and staff reminds us why we’re here: to ensure we leave the land in the best, safest condition for the landowners,” Blair said. “This isn’t the glamorous part of the job, but it is vital to the community we serve.”

Officials said there are more than 100 people fighting the fire, and crews are experiencing favorable weather conditions.

On Thursday, crews from the Coffee Creek Female Correctional Facility and the Willamette National Forest joined ODF and private contract crews on the fire line.

Firefighters are working toward the interior of the fire, officials said.
