EUGENE, Ore. -- A motor home caught fire west of Eugene on Wednesday night, sending the driver scrambling for his life and snarling traffic in both directions.
The incident happened on Hwy 126 near Fern Ridge Reservoir. Officials say the vehicle was headed east just before 8 o'clock when the fire broke out, quickly consuming the RV.

The driver, who was the only one in the vehicle, told fire officials that he was on his way to Washington. He was able to pull the vehicle onto the shoulder and exit without injuries.
Investigators say they aren't sure what caused the fire, but it's most likely a maintenance or mechanical failure.
Hwy 126 was blocked for about an hour.
