FLORENCE, Ore. – The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce is canceling the 113th Rhododendron Festival over concerns about the ongoing pandemic.
This is the first time the festival has been canceled since World War II. The festival is held the third weekend of May.
“Because there is a lot at stake for our economy, we took the utmost consideration in this decision for our local businesses,” said Executive Director Bettina Hannigan.
Hannigan said so much has changed with respect to coronavirus, and the chamber is working to continue advancing the cause of commerce.
“As a chamber of commerce, and as a community at large, our top priority should be preventing further spread of COVID-19 and taking care of each other through these uncertain times,” Hannigan said.
