CORVALLIS, Ore. — For the second day in a row, some Corvallis residents took to the streets to bring awareness to pedestrian safety after an 11-year-old girl was hit in a crosswalk a week ago.

Around 40 people walked along SE 3rd Street on Tuesday, crossing at crosswalks and trying to get drivers to be aware they're there.

Organizers said they used umbrellas as a sign of solidarity and as a tool to make themselves noticed. Linda Johansen has lived along SE 3rd Street for nearly four decades and she said drivers do not abdide by the 25 mph speed limit these days.

"I would like to see traffic slow down where there are neighborhoods like this," Johansen said. "I’d like to see red flashing lights which means they have to stop, not yellow that they squeak through really quick.”

A similar walk-in was held in the area of the crash on Monday.

Corvallis City Councilor Hyatt Lytle said the child’s death is the third pedestrian death in that area in the last couple of years.
