EUGENE, Ore. – Some people in west Eugene are upset that a homeless camp continues to grow in their neighborhood.
The camp is located just off Greenhill Road and West 11th Avenue on private property.
Tony St. Jacques, who lives near the camp, reached out to KEZI with his concerns.
He said for the last three years, he's noticed several people with animals putting up tents, building fires and leaving trash everywhere.
St. Jacques said he feels for the homeless population but still wants people to take responsibility for their actions.
"I empathize with the situation,” St. Jacques said. “But it seems as though it's a lifestyle for some, and for others, it just seems they hide behind the homelessness for doing illicit activities."
Lane County has jurisdiction over the private property. County officials said neighbors or concerned residents can file a complaint. They said that since it's on private property, they would need the owner of the property to contact them to take enforcement action for trespassing.
KEZI reached out to the property owner, but did not hear back.
